I used to wonder how people managed to pack so much into their day. You see these immaculate homes, successful women effortlessly juggling work, family, and self-care, all while looking flawless. It creates this 'ideal' - this peaceful, thriving existence where everything just gracefully flows. Naturally, you want that too.
You want the calm. The ease. The feeling of having it all together.
I tried to be that person. And, as much as I wish this blog were about how I cracked the code and found a way to achieve it all - it’s not. Sorry.
Because, here’s the truth: that image isn’t real. The only thing it leads to is burnout.
So instead of chasing perfection, let’s talk about something real - something that actually works. How to thrive in a way that feels achievable, sustainable, and kind to yourself.
Today, we’re talking about habit stacking.

What Is Habit Stacking?
Habit stacking is essentially mindful multitasking - pairing small, intentional habits with existing routines so they fit naturally into your day. It’s about maximising your time without the pressure of finding extra hours to dedicate to self-care, wellness, or productivity.
Simple concept. Huge impact.
Why Does Habit Stacking Work?
The magic of habit stacking is that it removes the pressure to carve out dedicated time for new habits. Instead, by attaching them to things you already do, they become effortless - automatic. No added stress, no overwhelming to-do lists.
And the best part? Tiny changes over time create long-term success.
My Real-Life Lesson on Habit Stacking
During lockdown, I decided I was going to glow up - really take care of myself, lose weight, and come out the other side feeling amazing. And honestly? I smashed it.
10k+ steps a day. 3-5 workouts a week. Planned meals. Enough sleep.
I felt incredible.
Then… life started again.
Lockdown wasn’t real life - it was just a snippet of time where I could dedicate 100% of my energy to self-care. But in everyday life? You don’t have 100% to give.
Between work, commuting, home responsibilities, family - most of us are left with maybe 10% of our time for ourselves. But instead of honouring that, we set wildly unrealistic expectations, expecting to squeeze 100% effort into that tiny fraction of time.
Naturally, we burn out. We give up. We postpone our goals until next week, next month… never. Then, we feel guilty. Sound familiar?
Where Habit Stacking Saves the Day
If I had known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have struggled so much (and I probably would have put all that weight back on either!). Instead of pushing for perfection, I could have incorporated wellness rituals into my existing routine.
Not dedicating extra time but stacking it.
Squats while unloading the washing machine.
Stretching while brushing my teeth.
Walking on the spot while waiting for the kettle to boil.
Not perfect. Not intense. But manageable.
That’s the power of habit stacking.
Simple Habit Stacking Ideas That Changed My Life
Morning Planning + Journaling: Write 3 affirmations before diving into your to-do list to create a moment that feels mindful and intentional without feeling heavy and busy. Bonus? Play soft healing music while doing it for that extra moment of calm.
Kitchen Time + Movement: Walk on the spot while waiting for the kettle to boil or the dinner to cook. Incorporating tiny movements that add up over time. Even challenge yourself to see how many steps you can get done while waiting on the kettle and just notice how your step count soras throughout the day without having to make time for long walks.
Night Routine + Prep for Tomorrow: Pull out tomorrow’s outfit while putting on your pyjamas - zero extra time needed, but saves you SO much stress in the morning.
Chores + Skincare: Hoovering with a face mask on = glowing skin AND a spotless home. I mean why should we put all that effort into just making other things look good right? we deserve that too! plus, it limits your time doing chores before you have to take your face mask off.
Commute + Learning: Listen to an audiobook or podcast - turning idle travel into productive self-care. Instead of getting frustrated in traffic, you now have a few more moments to get through your reading list or your favourite podcast.
Laundry + Entertainment: Putting away clean clothes while watching your favourite show - goodbye laundry pile, hello guilt-free TV time! Game changer!
The Takeaway? Small Habits, Big Impact!
You don’t need hours of free time to make progress. By keeping habits flexible, manageable, and aligned with things you’re already doing, you’re making room for self-care without sacrificing everything else.
Perfection is a myth. Progress isn’t about doing everything - it’s about making small shifts that actually fit into real life.
You don’t need to be perfect to make progress. Small shifts, stacked daily, lead to real transformation.
So tell me - what habits will you stack this week? I’d love to hear and maybe even try them myself!
